Why You Should Drink More Water

Water is all around us, from lakes, rivers and streams to drinking water. It's even in us, as water makes up about two-thirds of who we are, and influences 100 percent of the processes in our body. Water is extremely beneficial to the body, yet it's easily overlooked. When we are dehydrated, which is easy to do, our bodies are affected by it. 1. Maintain Body Fluids

Our bodies are made of 60 percent water. The functions of these bodily fluids help with digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients and maintenance of body temperature. Muscle fatigue happens when cells don't maintain their balance of fluids and electrolytes shrivel. Drinking enough fluids while exercising is important to avoid muscle fatigue. It's recommended to drink 17 ounces of fluids about 2 hours before working out. During exercise, it's recommended to drink fluids early and at regular intervals to replace the fluids that are lost by sweating.

5. Aids Digestion

Water helps dissolve fats and soluble fiber. Drinking enough water reduces the burden on the kidneys and liver by helping flush waste products. In the large intestine, water binds with fiber to help with the digestion process.

6. Keeps Kidneys Working

Kidneys do an amazing job of cleansing and ridding the body of toxins. However, they need fluids in order to do it. When your body is not getting enough fluids, the kidneys trap extra fluids for bodily functions. If you chronically drink too little, you may be at higher risk for kidney stones, especially in warm climates.

7. Improve Mood

Drinking water can help you feel more refreshed, which could improve your overall state of mind. You don't even need to be severely dehydrated to feel the benefits of water. Studies have shown that even mild dehydration has been shown to negatively impact moods, so when you're feeling a bit blue, reach for a refreshing glass of water.
