Symptoms Of Poor Water Quality

Did you know the quality of your home's water can cause a variety of issues throughout your home? Hard water, improper pH balance and other contaminates can cause issues that range from spots on your glassware to damaging the water pipes in your home. If you are noticing any of the following symptoms in your home, call Lake of the Ozarks' water experts at 573-719-1314.

Dry Skin / Hair
Hard water will not only affect your home, but you may also notice it affecting your body. It can clog your pore, which can leave your skin feeling dry and itchy. In addition, your hair can become damaged and unmanageable due to hard water.

Stiff Laundry / Laundry Stains
Calcium and magnesium lingering in your water can cause your laundry to become stiff or hard. In addition, poor water quality can also leave your freshly laundered clothes with stains. Iron is just one of the possible reasons for your water damaging your clothes.

Soap Scum / Lime Buildup
Soap scum and lime build-up are the residues that you see left behind on faucets, in your tub, and in your sinks. It’s caused by hard water and can be damaging to your pipes and fixtures.

Spots on Glass / Cloudy Glassware
Hard water will leave your glasses spotted and dirty looking even when they come straight out of the dishwasher. In addition, you will also find these spots on your shower door and faucets.

Poor / Bad Taste
Does your tap water taste bad? If so, there could be contaminants such as chlorine or sulfur in your water. Water that tastes salty could be caused by sulfate concentration levels and geographic tendencies. Bitter tasting water is often caused when the pH of your water is out-of-sync.

Chlorine / Musty Smell
Chlorine is one of the most commonly used water disinfectants use by water companies. However, it can leave an unpleasant taste in your water when it reaches your home. Water can also smell musty or sometimes fishy, this can be caused by iron and copper in your home's water.

Rusty or Blue / Green Stains
Iron is one of the most common types of problem water and can leave your fixtures and tubs with rust stains. Blue and green stains in your tubs and sinks are often caused by low pH levels in your water.

Colored Water
We want our drinking water to be crystal clear. If it's not, a water analysis test is the best way to figure out what;s marking your water the wrong color.

What You Need To Know About Water Softeners

The Lake area is known for having hard water, and if you live in the area, you've probably seen or heard all about the disadvantages of living in an area with hard water. Luckily, there is a way around it! Your Lake of the Ozarks water experts can install a water softener in your home to help prevent the damage that hard water can do to your home. However, is installing a water softener that right choice for your home? Culligan® Lake of the Ozarks has all the information you need to figure out if installing a water softener is the right choice for you and your home.

Do I Have Hard Water?

Homes will either have hard or soft water. Unfortunately, at the Lake of the Ozarks, most homes have extremely hard water. The easiest way to identify whether you have hard water is by inspecting the damage it does to your dishes, glasses and utensils. Hard water is abrasive and causes stains, fogginess in glasses and spots on glasses. Hard water also produces scale, which can form on appliances, as well as boilers and plumbing systems. This can cause appliances to be less efficient and can clog plumbing to the extent where they become less effective at passing the water supply through.

Do I Need A Water Softener?

If your home has hard water, it may be wise to invest in a water softener. If you are seeing the signs of hard water in your home, the best way to prevent them is with a water softener system. While these issues may not be bad now, over time, they will gradually worsen and have adverse effects on your home. In addition, hard water is tough on our bodies. Hard water can clog your pores, which can leave your skin feeling dry and itchy. Plus, hard water can damage your hair and become unmanageable.

Culligan High Efficiency Water Softener

Savings
Your Lake of the Ozarks Culligan Man® offers a range of water softener products that fits your needs, wallet and for every size household. The Culligan® High Efficiency Water Softener is the most efficient water softener in the market. You can save more on water, salt and electricity with patented smart technology that makes our high-efficiency water softeners up to 46% more efficient than other softeners.

Intelligence
While using up to 50% less salt, the HE lets you know how many days remain until you need to refill it with salt. Our Aqua-Sensor® technology automatically detects changes in your water conditions and makes softening adjustments accordingly. You can even install an optional modem that will tell your Lake of the Ozarks Culligan® directly if salt or service is needed.

Ease
Culligan® High Efficiency's remote display alerts you to any problems and gives you control over various functions, like activating the electronic bypass valve. The Dial-A-Softness® control ensures that your water is always just the way you like it, never too soft or too hard.

FAQs

Will my water taste salty?
No. A properly functioning water softener will never make your water taste salty. The small amount of sodium added to the water will never create a salty taste.

Will the softener remove all impurities?
A water softener is designed to remove hardness (calcium and magnesium) from the water. They can sometimes remove a limited amount of iron and manganese if you happen to have these problems as well. But if you are looking for great water for drinking and cooking, you should probably consider a reverse osmosis system for that purpose.

How long after installation will I have soft water?
Once a softener is installed, it will begin to soften your water immediately! Keep in mind if you have a tank-type hot water heater, it may take a few days to use up that hard water. Soon after that, you feel the full effects of soft water and the joys it brings to you and your family's life!

How often do I need to add salt?
Most good softeners today recharge based on how many gallons of water you use, and how hard your water is to start with.  However, because Culligan® has the most modern equipment available on the market today, most of our customers are adding salt once or twice a year, on average. It's amazing!

With a Culligan High Efficiency Water Softener, you'll have the world's most efficient water softener that saves up to you 46% on operating costs including energy, water, and cleaning products as well as soaps and detergents. It's Lake of the Ozarks preferred choice! If you are interested in learning more about water softeners or having one installed in your home, call your water experts at the Lake of the Ozarks at 573-719-1314.

5 Things Lurking In Your Water

We all know that water is vital to our health, however, it's even more important to have clean drinking water. Water treatment facilities are entrusted to provide safe drinking water, however, they don't remove everything. They only test and regulate a certain number of contaminants that were listed more than a decade ago, although numerous new chemicals have been introduced since then. If you do not use a Lake of the Ozarks water filtration system, here are a few things that may be lurking in your tap water.

1. Chlorine

Byproducts of disinfection chemicals, such as chlorine, are some of the highest detected contaminants in tap water, and they're often found at levels higher than the federal drinking water standard regulations. While chlorine is great at disinfecting, the byproducts of chlorination, chlorinated hydrocarbons, puts you at risk for a number of health risks.

However, it's not just drinking the chlorine and chlorine byproducts that are dangerous, showering or bathing in it can be just as dangerous, sometimes even more so. When taking a hot shower, you end up absorbing over 600 percent more chlorine and other chemicals, as the warm water opens up your skin's pores, making it like a sponge for chlorine.

2. Lead

Lead in tap water is mainly caused by old metal fixtures connecting the house supply to the mains. Unlike chlorine, lead dissolved in water doesn't cause any changes in color, smell or taste, so the only way to know if your water is contaminated is to have it tested. Lead is extremely toxic and particularly affects the neuromuscular system causing symptoms ranging from abdominal problems and fatigue to cognitive decline.

3. Pharmaceutical Pollution

Prescription drugs, along with medication given to livestock, are increasingly showing up in the groundwater, soil, waterways and even drinking water. Conventional sewage treatments may not be looking for drugs, and certainly, are not always removing them. In addition, prescription drugs that aren't used and are flushed down the toilet or deposited in landfills eventually end up in the environment. These pharmaceutical pollutions could have a major impact on wildlife, agriculture and humans, yet is only beginning to be studied.

4. Fluoride

Fluoride is actually a substance that many cities add to the water. We've heard most our life that it's added because we need it for good dental health. However, it's been proven that the ingestion of fluoride doesn't actually benefit us. Fluorosis, which is caused by consuming too much fluoride, is dangerous and can cause brain damage, thyroid disease, bone fractures and more.

5. Toxic Organic Compounds

Tap water can contain several organic compounds that are known to be toxic including trichloroethylene, perchloroethylene, perchlorate and atrazine are just a few of them. Perchlorate is a rocket fuel additive mainly coming from military manufacturing facilities. Trichloroethylene is a degreaser that has many applications in manufacturing industries while perchloroethylene is a common solvent used in dry cleaning. These toxins can cause a lot of health risks including central nervous system damage, liver and kidney disease, stunted brain development and more.

As the leading water expert at the Lake of the Ozarks, your Culligan Man® has a home water system for any problem. We will work with you to find a solution that is customized for your needs and budget. Don't let these problems affect your home's water quality. Clean, better-tasting water is just a call away!

5 Tips To Staying Hydrated This Spring

The weather is beginning to get warmer and spring fever is starting to kick in, which means we're starting to get out of the house more and more. While it's a good thing to get outside and enjoy the warm weather, it's important to remember to stay hydrated. It's a simple thing to remember, but it can be hard when we're busy enjoying things we have done in several months. Your Lake of the Ozarks Culligan Man® has a few tips that will hopefully help you stay hydrated this spring.

1. Enjoy More Fruit

Spring is a great season to enjoy more fruit, as many of our favorites are in season, such as apples, bananas, pineapples and strawberries. These fruits are not only delicious, but they have a high water, which can help aid in keeping you hydrated. While all berries are good for hydration, strawberries are the best with 92 percent water. Take advantage of these hydrating berries being in season, and enjoy them with yogurt or in your oatmeal!

2. Get Creative & Infuse

While plain, old water, the way Mother Nature makes it, is a beautiful thing, sometimes we need to jazz it up a bit. There are many different and exciting ways you can infuse your water to make it seem more like the treat your body sees it as. All you need to do is decide what you want to put in your water, and let them hang out for a few hour to help infuse the water with great flavor without adding chemicals or sugar. Some of the things you can put in your water include:

- Cucumbers
- Oranges
- Lemons
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Mint
- Basil

These are just a few of our favorite. Get creative and see what you like!

3. Drink From A Straw

If you're having some trouble drinking the proper amount of water, try putting a straw in your cup. Drinking through a straw helps you drink larger amounts in a shorter period of time. While drinking through a straw, a vacuum is created, meaning we're ingesting only liquid, not liquid and oxygen like when taking a normal sip, which means more liquid in each sip and few sips until the bottle's empty.  In addition, if the cup that the straw is in is clear, being able to see how much water is left could encourage you to finish it. You could also draw "time lines" on your water bottle, to see where the water level should be by each hour.

4. Find A Hydration Buddy

If you aren't holding yourself accountable to your goals, get someone on board with you who will encourage you. Whether it's your significant other, best friend or co-worker, get someone who can help you stay on track. Let each other know how many ounces of water you've had so far in a day for a simple reminder and to give you the motivation to go fill up your bottle or keep on sipping. Before you know it, drinking your needed ounces during the day will become second nature and you can move onto the next health goal.

5. Use Culligan's Services

Whether you install a reverse osmosis system or do our Lake of the Ozarks water delivery services, just find a way to filter out the yucky chemicals that are hiding in the water. Once you do, it's amazing how tasty water is, and you will naturally want to drink more of it. Culligan® ClearLink PRO™ Drinking Water Accessory

Our newest reverse osmosis drinking water system accessory, ClearLink PRO™ works alongside our drinking water systems to provide cleaner, better-tasting drinking water from your existing faucet. ClearLink’s wireless technology eliminates the need to drill through countertops or sacrifice soap dispensers like traditional RO systems. There’s no need for additional faucets or fixtures to wash vegetables with your sprayer, fill pots for cooking, or simply enjoy a glass of filtered water. With ClearLink PRO™ it's all with the touch of a button. Your Culligan Man® has all the information on this new drinking water accessory so you can enjoy clean, filtered water at the Lake of the Ozarks.

ClearLink PRO™

ClearLink PRO™ is a first-to-market wireless control system that allows you to get Culligan® filtered water from your main faucet. Until now, installing an RO system required a dedicated faucet, which meant drilling a hole or losing a soap dispenser. Now you can use your existing faucet to wash vegetables with your sprayer, fill pots for cooking or just enjoying a glass of filtered water.

Features of Culligan® ClearLink PRO™

- Filter life gauge to ensure your system is producing the best quality of water.
- LED backlight display shows when filtered water is flowing.
- On trend design in multiple finishes to complement today's kitchen decor.
- The alert indicator illuminates when the filter, RO membrane, or batteries need to be replaced.

How It Works

ClearLink PRO™ utilizes wireless technology to switch the main faucet between unfiltered and filtered water at the touch of a button. The ClearLink PRO™ control box is installed on the main water line and connected to the Culligan® water filter. For filtered water, turn on the cold water, push the ClearLink PRO™ button and in a few seconds, you have RO water at the main faucet. When you're done, simply turn off the water and the system will automatically divert back to unfiltered water ensuring you don't waste filtered water.

Benefits of ClearLink PRO™

- Use your existing faucet eliminating the need to drill a hole.
- Wireless technology allows you to place the ClearLink PRO™ button virtually anywhere.
- Integrated filter life indicator takes the guesswork out of when to replace filters.
- Water quality monitor ensures you have the best quality of water at all times.
- Filtered water can be added to any room with a sink.

How Drinking Water Can Benefit Your Workout

One way to ensure you have a better workout is to make sure you drink the proper amount of water before and during your workout. If you're avoiding drinking water while exercise due to a fear of getting a side-ache, you may be surprised to learn how water could actually lead to a better workout. Water is an important part of making sure your body is working properly. Because our bodies are made up of approximately 70 percent water, it's important to replace the water we lose to keep our bodies working. Culligan Lake of the Ozarks explains how drinking water could lead to a better, more efficient workout.

Why Drink Water

While you may know that water keeps you hydrated during your workout, you may not know how. Water keeps your muscles, joints and vital organs lubricated. Water is necessary for you to have energy during your workout, as it transports oxygen and glucose throughout your body. Muscles need water for strength and flexibility. Your joints need water to prevent stiffness and your brain needs it to send messages, such as keeping your body temperature regulated.

Don't Substitute

There's no substitute for water. You may think that you need to be drinking juice or a sports drink during hard workouts, but you could actually be doing your body a disservice by doing so. Many of these drinks contain a surprising amount of sugar, which could cause your body to become dehydrated. When you consume a sports drink or juice instead of water, it will generally make you thirstier. Generally, you don't need to consume anything except water during your workout, unless you are engaging in a strenuous activity or working out for longer than an hour.

How Much Water?

The amount of water you should drink before and during your workout varies for each individual. It all depends on your weight, type of workout and the climate. Begin with 8 - 16 ounces of water before the workout, and consume one glass of water for each 20 minutes to half hour during the workout.

Signs Of Dehydration

By the time you recognize you're thirsty, your body has already lost important fluids. If you become dehydrated during your workout, you might not even recognize it. When your body loses too much fluids, you will become tired and dizzy. In some cases, you may feel nauseous or have the chills. In severe cases, your heart rate will increase, lose the ability to sweat and become delirious. If you experience any of these symptoms, it's important you contact your doctor immediately.

Culligan Water On The Go

Good clean drinking water is essential to everyone's health. Culligan Lake of the Ozarks offers a variety of drinking water solutions from reverse osmosis drinking water systems to bottled water delivery. Our bottled water at the Lake of the Ozarks is free of impurities, like sodium, lead and chlorine, so it's a healthy choice for the entire family. Having clean, fresh and tasty water that you can grab while heading out the door makes it easy to remember to drink the right amount of water throughout the day. Before you head to the gym, make sure you grab yourself a bottle of Culligan water!
