5 Tips and Tricks to Jazz Up Your Coffee

For many people, having "a nice cup of joe" is how they start their day. This is how they jumpstart their morning and get their selves ready to "conquer their daily obligations." We think it's safe to say that coffee is thought of as a required daily beverage for some people, but what can make your coffee taste even better? The best water provider at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to give you a few tips and tricks to jazz up your coffee. If you really want to make your coffee taste better, call Culligan at the Lake of the Ozarks. Just the simple change of water could be the solution you've been searching for.

5 Tips and Tricks to Jazz Up Your Coffee

Add butter

It is known that adding butter to your morning dose of coffee can boost energy and give you a unique taste to enjoy.

Add maple syrup.

If you are more of a sweet coffee drinker, try adding maple syrup or maple sugar. Stir it in and enjoy your sweet, delicious cup of coffee.

Add coconut milk.

If you are lactose intolerant but would like to still sweeten up your coffee somehow, try adding coconut milk. The texture can be fairly close to whole milk, just use it sparingly as it can contain a hefty amount of fat. Coconut milk also provides a good amount of Vitamin C, E, and B.

Add vanilla extract.

Many people prefer sweet coffee, but if you'd prefer to try something different than the traditional dose of creamer and sugar, consider vanilla extract.

Add ice cream.

Who doesn't love ice cream? While it may sound unconventional to add ice cream to your coffee, this can be a great way to cool it down on a warm day and turn it into a fun, dessert drink.

Poor/Bad Taste
Does your tap water taste bad? If so, there could be contaminants such as chlorine or sulfur in your water. Let Culligan recommend a drinking water solution for your home.

Chlorine Smell
Chlorine is one of the most commonly used water disinfectants use by water companies. However, it can leave an unpleasant taste in your water when it reaches your home. Let your Culligan Man recommend which water solution is right for your home!

Salty Taste
Water that tastes salty could be caused by sulfate concentration levels and geographic tendencies. Luckily, Culligan can remove the salty taste from your water. Let your Culligan Man recommend which water solution is right for your home!

Bitter Taste
Bitter tasting water is often caused when the pH of your water is out-of-sync. Culligan has the equipment to fix the bitterness in your water. Let your Culligan Man recommend which water solution is right for your home!

Lead
Lead rarely occurs naturally in water; it usually gets into the water from the delivery system. Lead pipes are the main contributor to high lead levels in tap water. Other sources include parts of the water delivery system such as lead solder used to join copper pipes, brass in faucets, coolers, and valves. Let your Culligan Man recommend a water solution to solve your lead problem.

pH (Acidic/Alkaline)
Every liquid has a pH, including your home’s water

Whether the pH is too high or too low, it can have damaging effects on your water

Rusty Stain
Iron is one of the most common types of problem water and can leave your fixtures and tubs with rust stains. Culligan has solutions geared towards removing the iron from your water. Find out which solution is right for your home!

Blue/Green Stain
Self-explanatory, blue and green stains in your tubs and sinks

Often caused by low pH levels in your water

Colored Water
Water should be clear, if not why would you drink it?

The only way to find out what’s making your water the wrong color is with a water analysis
Did you know Culligan offers a Free Water Analysis?

Laundry Stains
If your laundry is coming out of the washer with stains, it could be your water

Iron is just one of the possible reasons for your water damaging your clothes
Don’t ruin your favorite shirt, get your water tested!

Musty Smell
Water may smell musty or sometimes described as fishy

This can be caused by iron and copper in your home’s water

BAKING SODA EASTER EGGS

You will need:

Baking soda
Vinegar
Powdered tempera paint
Tongs
Containers
Hard-boiled eggs

**Powdered paint is not safe to consume, so if you peel your eggs and notice any color on them, do not eat them.**

Instructions

You will need a container of baking soda for each color you will be using. Pour in some baking soda so that the bottom of the container is covered.

Next, add in the powdered tempera paint. We used a tablespoon of powdered paint. Mix until the paint and baking soda are thoroughly combined.

Have your child gently place a hard boiled egg into the container with the baking soda and paint. I poured some vinegar in a small cup and then gave it to my daughter. She slowly poured it into the container and was amazed when she saw what happened.

The vinegar combined with the baking soda and powdered paint mixture to form fizzy green bubbles which covered the entire egg.

We tried dying eggs a variety of colors and the highlight was always when the foam started going down to reveal a colored egg!

I removed the eggs with some tongs and placed them in an egg carton to dry. When they dried, some of the paint left speckles and an interesting texture to the eggs. Baking soda Easter eggs are easy to make and the results are always different. They will certainly become a yearly tradition here.

SALT DOUGH EASTER EGGS – SUPPLY LIST

– batch or two of salt dough (see below)
– rolling pin
– ruler, to measure dough thickness
– egg shape cutter
– spatula
– straw, for making holes
– parchment-paper covered baking sheets
– spray or acrylic paint
– paint pens, optional
– clear coat sealer, optional
– twine, ribbon

RECIPE FOR SALT DOUGH EASTER EGGS

Mix up your favorite salt dough recipe. For this project, I used the following recipe:

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water

Stir together all three ingredients until a dough forms. Kneading the dough a couple times can help make it smoother.

Roll it out (I rolled mine to 1/4 inch thick) and cut out desired shapes.

Place the cut-outs on the parchment-covered baking sheets. Remember to make a hole so you can hang the ornaments — a straw works perfectly!

Bake at 250F for 2 hours.

DIRECTIONS FOR SALT DOUGH EASTER EGGS

Once the shapes are adequately baked, dried and then thoroughly cooled, it’s painting time. I like using spray paint because it’s faster and easier but acrylics work just as well.

Allow the paint to thoroughly dry. Use paint pens to add polka dots or lines of decorations to the eggs.

Optional: To further protect the color and design, add a clear coat sealer.

Loop twine or ribbon through the holes and hang.
