Are You Drinking Enough Water?

Have you ever wondered why you keep getting headaches throughout the day or why you just feel unenergetic most of the time? If this sounds like you, consider drinking more water. Many people probably don't realize they are not drinking enough quality water at the Lake of the Ozarks each day. Culligan at the Lake of the Ozarks found this fantastic article by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that we think may help people to understand when they may need to drink more water and how they should go about doing so.

Source: https://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/drinking/nutrition/index.html

Getting enough water every day is important for your health. Healthy people meet their fluid needs by drinking when thirsty and drinking with meals. Most of your fluid needs are met through the water and beverages you drink. However, you can get some fluids through the foods that you eat. For example, broth soups and foods with high water content such as celery, tomatoes, or melons can contribute to fluid intake.

Water helps your body:

  • Keep your temperature normal
  • Lubricate and cushion joints
  • Protect your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues
  • Get rid of wastes through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements

Your body needs more water when you are:

  • In hot climates
  • More physically active
  • Running a fever
  • Having diarrhea or vomiting

If you think you are not getting enough water, these tips may help:

  • Carry a water bottle for easy access when you are at work of running errands.
  • Freeze some freezer safe water bottles. Take one with you for ice-cold water all day long.
  • Choose water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages. This can also help with weight management. Substituting water for one 20-ounce sugar sweetened soda will save you about 240 calories. For example, during the school day students should have access to drinking water, giving them a healthy alternative to sugar-sweetened beverages.

  • Choose water when eating out. Generally, you will save money and reduce calories.
  • Add a wedge of lime or lemon to your water. This can help improve the taste and help you drink more water than you usually do.

KEY Benefits of Drinking Water Regularly While You Are Pregnant

You've just received the BIG news! You are having a baby. Congratulations! Your bundle of joy will be here before you know it. How exciting! There are so many tips out there that can help you stay healthy while you are pregnant, but one significant thought are the benefits of drinking water while you are pregnant. In this blog, our quality water company at the Lake of the Ozarks, Culligan would like to give you a few major benefits of drinking water while you are pregnant.

KEY Benefits of Drinking Water While You Are Pregnant

Water Delivers Essential Nutrients To Your Fetus

Water helps your body absorb the essential nutrients into the cells. Water also helps transport vitamins, minerals, and hormones to the blood cells. Basically, the good things in the prenatal vitamins you are taking are being transported to your fetus starting with water.

Your Daily Recommended Water Intake Increases While You Are Pregnant

Normally, you're expected to drink approximately 8 glasses of water a day. When you are pregnant, according to the Institute of Medicine, you should drink 12 glasses of water a day. Try to space out your sips of water, rather than gulping down a large amount all at once. This can help prevent you from feeling nauseous or uncomfortable.

Water Can Help With Fatigue, Overheating and Headaches

When you are pregnant, you can feel hot more often than you did when you were not pregnant. Drinking water regularly can help cool you down. A couple of symptoms of dehydration can be exhaustion and headaches, so drinking water while you are pregnant can help prevent both symptoms from taking place.

Raving Culligan Customer Review of the Day

It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend Culligan's reverse osmosis with distilled cartridge to any dental practice.

I was frustrated with having to allow time for a staff member to go to the store for bottles of distilled water. It was time consuming and took time away from patient care. The new system in our office was easily installed & has eliminated those worries. There is a special tap for the water that our assistants use when filling our sterilization equipment. It is SO easy!

Not only are the fees for the service affordable, but the relief of not having to run weekly errands is priceless.

How Water Can Improve Your Life

Water is a vital part of our lives. The average person could live without food for nearly a month, but we could only survive about a week without water - that's how essential water is to our lives. However, it's easy to forget to drink the proper amount of water every day. When we become dehydrated, our bodies are affected by it, so it's important to drink the proper amount of water. If you do stay properly hydrated, here are a few benefits you can experience.

1. It can increase energy levels. Water makes up nearly 60 percent of our body, and every single one of our organs and other bodily functions needs water to function properly. Once our bodies start to feel dehydrated, our bodies tend to slow down, which can leave you feeling sluggish, tired and irritable. If you're feeling like you need a quick pick me up, don't reach for the coffee, try drinking a glass of water instead.

2. It can improve your digestion. Did you know that drinking water during or after a meal can actually aid in digestion? Water can help break down food and help our bodies absorb the nutrients we need. While it's not necessary to drink water in order to digest food, it certainly helps out.

3. It can help with weight loss. Drinking water and been thought to help with weight loss for a long time. In fact, 30 - 60 percent of Americans who are trying to lose weight will increase their water intake. Drinking water increases the amount of calories you burn for at least an hour, which could help with modest weight loss.

4. It can help with joint and back pain. There are many different reasons why your joints may hurt, however, drinking more water could help ease the pain. While increasing your water intake may not cure the pain, it can help your body handle the underlying issues that are causing you pain.

5. It can help improve your skin. Our skin contains a lot of water and acts as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss. Dehydration may make your skin look dry, dull and wrinkled. Although drinking water may not help with fine lines, proper hydration can help your skin look glowing.

6. It can improve your immune system. Water has a huge impact on your immune system. Water helps keep our organs and other bodily fluids working properly. It flushes out toxins and ensures our cells get all the oxygens they need to function. All of this can help keep you healthy and fight viruses, infections and other ailments.

How Drinking Water Can Benefit Your Workout

One way to ensure you have a better workout is to make sure you drink the proper amount of water before and during your workout. If you're avoiding drinking water while exercise due to a fear of getting a side-ache, you may be surprised to learn how water could actually lead to a better workout. Water is an important part of making sure your body is working properly. Because our bodies are made up of approximately 70 percent water, it's important to replace the water we lose to keep our bodies working. Culligan Lake of the Ozarks explains how drinking water could lead to a better, more efficient workout.

Why Drink Water

While you may know that water keeps you hydrated during your workout, you may not know how. Water keeps your muscles, joints and vital organs lubricated. Water is necessary for you to have energy during your workout, as it transports oxygen and glucose throughout your body. Muscles need water for strength and flexibility. Your joints need water to prevent stiffness and your brain needs it to send messages, such as keeping your body temperature regulated.

Don't Substitute

There's no substitute for water. You may think that you need to be drinking juice or a sports drink during hard workouts, but you could actually be doing your body a disservice by doing so. Many of these drinks contain a surprising amount of sugar, which could cause your body to become dehydrated. When you consume a sports drink or juice instead of water, it will generally make you thirstier. Generally, you don't need to consume anything except water during your workout, unless you are engaging in a strenuous activity or working out for longer than an hour.

How Much Water?

The amount of water you should drink before and during your workout varies for each individual. It all depends on your weight, type of workout and the climate. Begin with 8 - 16 ounces of water before the workout, and consume one glass of water for each 20 minutes to half hour during the workout.

Signs Of Dehydration

By the time you recognize you're thirsty, your body has already lost important fluids. If you become dehydrated during your workout, you might not even recognize it. When your body loses too much fluids, you will become tired and dizzy. In some cases, you may feel nauseous or have the chills. In severe cases, your heart rate will increase, lose the ability to sweat and become delirious. If you experience any of these symptoms, it's important you contact your doctor immediately.

Culligan Water On The Go

Good clean drinking water is essential to everyone's health. Culligan Lake of the Ozarks offers a variety of drinking water solutions from reverse osmosis drinking water systems to bottled water delivery. Our bottled water at the Lake of the Ozarks is free of impurities, like sodium, lead and chlorine, so it's a healthy choice for the entire family. Having clean, fresh and tasty water that you can grab while heading out the door makes it easy to remember to drink the right amount of water throughout the day. Before you head to the gym, make sure you grab yourself a bottle of Culligan water!

Why You Should Drink More Water

Water is all around us, from lakes, rivers and streams to drinking water. It's even in us, as water makes up about two-thirds of who we are, and influences 100 percent of the processes in our body. Water is extremely beneficial to the body, yet it's easily overlooked. When we are dehydrated, which is easy to do, our bodies are affected by it. Your Lake of the Ozarks Culligan Man takes a closer look at why drinking the proper amount of water is important.

1. Maintain Body Fluids

Our bodies are made of 60 percent water. The functions of these bodily fluids help with digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients and maintenance of body temperature. When your body is low on fluids, the brain triggers the body's thirst mechanism. Unless you're taking medications that make you thirsty, it's wise to listen to these cues and get yourself a nice cold, glass of water.

2. Control Calories

Water has been an important part of dieting for years. While water itself doesn't have any effect on weight loss, when you substitute it for a higher calorie beverage, such as soda, it certainly can help. Foods that contain a lot of water tend to look larger, and because they have a higher volume it requires more chewing, and it absorbed slowly by the body, which helps you feel full.

3. Healthy Skin

Skin contains lots of water and acts as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss. However, don't expect over-hydration to erase wrinkles or fine lines. Dehydration may make your skin look more dry and wrinkled, which can be improved with proper hydrations. However, once you're adequately hydrated, the kidneys take over and excrete the excess fluids.

4. Energize Muscles

Muscle fatigue happens when cells don't maintain their balance of fluids and electrolytes shrivel. Drinking enough fluids while exercising is important to avoid muscle fatigue. It's recommended to drink 17 ounces of fluids about 2 hours before working out. During exercise, it's recommended to drink fluids early and at regular intervals to replace the fluids that are lost by sweating.

5. Aids Digestion

Water helps dissolve fats and soluble fiber. Drinking enough water reduces the burden on the kidneys and liver by helping flush waste products. In the large intestine, water binds with fiber to help with the digestion process.

6. Keeps Kidneys Working

Kidneys do an amazing job of cleansing and ridding the body of toxins. However, they need fluids in order to do it. When your body is not getting enough fluids, the kidneys trap extra fluids for bodily functions. If you chronically drink too little, you may be at higher risk for kidney stones, especially in warm climates.

7. Improve Mood

Drinking water can help you feel more refreshed, which could improve your overall state of mind. You don't even need to be severely dehydrated to feel the benefits of water. Studies have shown that even mild dehydration has been shown to negatively impact moods, so when you're feeling a bit blue, reach for a refreshing glass of water.

Culligan at the Lake of the Ozarks makes it easy for you to have access to the best drinking water available. When you have delicious drinking water that is easily available, it's easy to drink more water! We offer a wide variety of home water solutions, including drinking water systems and water filtration systems. Let us help you stay hydrated so that you can start seeing the many benefits of water.
