Is Lead Lurking in your Water?

Is there lead in my drinking water? Lead can be harmful to your health and this is a common question. Lead has no color, scent, or taste and is only detected through a water test. We've outlined some concerns to keep in mind when evaluating the safety and quality of your drinking water. If you are looking to get lead, metal and corrosive water testing done on your home's drinking water, contact your local Culligan Man with Culligan Lake of the Ozarks.

Most people believe their drinking water comes from pure sources without contamination, or they assume that the water has been treated, so there is not a problem. However, lead rarely contaminates water at the source. The primary reason lead is found in drinking water sources is the piping used for distribution or the household plumbing.

Why is lead a concern?

Lead is a toxic metal that is harmful to human health and there is NO safe level for lead exposure. Consuming contaminated water can lead to numerous health problems but the good news is, it is possible to reduce exposure to lead.

Here's how to remove lead from your water to protect yourself and your family from this harmful contaminant.

1. Schedule a water analysis - it's free!

Call your local Culligan Man (573) 346-5221 or fill out the water test analysis form to schedule a Free Water Testing for your home. The analysis will reaveal not only lead, but other harmful contaminats such as arsenic, nitrates and E. coli. He will send your water sample to Culligan's EPA-Certified lab for analysis. Results should arive in about three days, and your Culligan water specialist will contact you to discuss options.

2. Take action.

If you decide that a Culligan Water Treatment option is best for you, a trained and certified Culligan service professional will install your new unit to your satisfaction. There are a number of systems that can remove contaminants from your water. Make sure you understand them all, from pricing to their capabilities, we want to ensure you're making the right choice for your home.

3. Continue to test for lead annually.

Your local Culligan Man will come to your home to provide a complete analysis of your water, fixtures, plumbing and water-using appliances. You can schedule this annually to ensure your system continues to work properly, this is especially important if you use a private well, and is essential for you and your families health.

Lead is dangerous, but if you employ the correct methods to remove it, you can avoid exposure. Culligan offers several home water solutions that if installed will drastically improve your home water system. In addition to receiving the health benefits of Culligan water, you will also have great tasting water for drinking and cooking. Your body and your taste buds will thank you! For more information, contact Culligan Lake of the Ozarks.

How Much Water Should You Really Drink?

Water is essential to good health, however, the amount of water you need to drink varies from person to person. So, how much water should you be drinking? There are many different variables that influence how much water each person needs including exercise, environment and health conditions. Your Lake of the Ozarks Culligan Man is here to help you determine the right amount of water you should be drinking.

How Much Water Should You Drink?

Water plays an important part in your well-being, so it is important to make sure you have enough each day. Lack of water can lead to dehydration. Symptoms of dehydration include dry mouth, headaches, dizziness and fatigue. Even mild dehydration can lead to feeling tired or lethargic.

You can lose water through breathing, sweating, urine and bowel movements. In order to function properly, you need to replenish the water you lose by consuming beverages and food that contain water.

The average amount of water a person needs, according to the Institute of Medicine, is roughly 3 liters for men and about 2.2 liters for women. However, this is assuming the person is at a healthy weight and in a temperate climate.

What Influences Water Needs

- Exercise. If you participate in any activity that makes you sweat, you will need to drink extra water. How much, depends on how much you lose via sweat. Typically, an extra 1.5 to 2.5 cups is good for short bursts. However, the longer you exercise and the more you sweat, the more water you will need to replace.

- Environment. Hot or humid weather could make you sweat, and requires you to replenish more than usual. In addition, during the winter season, heated indoor air could make you lose water by drying out your skin.

- Health Issues. When you have a fever, your body loses fluid. Drinking water will help you regain what you have lost. Your doctor may even recommend drinking sports drinks to re-hydrate you quicker.

- Pregnancy. Pregnant women require a higher intake of water to stay hydrated. In addition, women who are breastfeeding will also lose fluids and require more water.

Tap vs. Bottled vs. Filtered

Tap Water - Although tap water is easy and convenient, it may be contaminated with pollutants that increase your risk of health issues. From arsenic to fluoride, our tap water is filled with chemicals.

Bottled Water - Some bottled waters are filled with tap water, which may or may not have received additional filtration. In addition, some plastic bottles contain a chemical called BPA, which is a synthetic hormone disruptor that could cause learning and behavioral problems, obesity and prostate and breast cancer.

Filtered Water - The best way to ensure clean, healthy water is to drink filtered water. The easiest way to do that is by installing the Culligan Total Home Systems to your home. However, there are many different ways to have filtered water in your home. To learn more visit our website at www.CulliganPro.com or call 573-346-5221.

Understanding Our Reverse Osmosis Filtration System

Culligan Lake of the Ozarks offers better water, pure and simple! You can count on our experience to provide you with the best drinking water you can get. In today's blog, we take a look at how our reverse osmosis filtration system brings you high-quality drinking water with no hassles!

What is Reverse Osmosis?

Reverse osmosis is a process in which contaminants are removed from water by pushing the water through a semi-permeable membrane. When your household water pressure pushes water through that membrane, impurities are filtered out and drained away. The result is a delicious, clean, tasty drinking water. This technology has actually been used since 1977. Since then, its become increasingly popular because it is safe, cost-effective and easy to maintain.

Benefits of a Reverse Osmosis Filtration System

Common impurities found in tap water include fluoride, chlorine, chlormamine, lead, pesticides, nitrates, sulfates, detergents and more. All of these contaminants can be removed through the process of reverse osmosis. The following are all benefits of using a reverse osmosis filtration system:
  • Improved Water Taste - Reverse osmosis filtration systems improve water taste, odor and appearance by removing the contaminants that cause those issues.
  • Nearly Maintenance Free - Reverse osmosis filtration systems have very little moving or replaceable parts, and therefore, they are easy to clean and service.
  • Cost-Effective Solution - While a reverse osmosis filtration system may have a higher initial cost, you'll save money in the long run by not having to buy bottled water all the time.

Culligan Bottle Free

Enjoy the convenience of bottled water without having to worry about scheduling deliveries and pickups by investing in one of our bottle-free water coolers. A Culligan Bottle Free water cooler is the most eco-friendly solution to high quality drinking water on the market today.
