4 Tips to Get Your Dog to Drink More Water

You've heard that old saying, "dogs are man's best friend." If that's the case then shouldn't the dog's water be just as good as the man's? You could give your dog or best friend quality water. The best water company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to give you a few tips to get your dog to drink more water. Typically, your dog should have 1 ounce of water for every pound of their body weight per day. If you are searching for a way to give your dog quality water at a fair price, then call your Culligan Man at the Lake of the Ozarks at (573) 346-5221.

4 Tips to Get Your Dog to Drink More Water

Tip # 1
Take water with you, for your dog, on trips.
If you are taking your dog for a long hike or just for a stroll through the dog park, make sure you are prepared. Bring a bottle of water and a portable, outdoor-friendly dog bowl. Your dog may get tired and this is a great way to motivate them to drink more water when they do.

Tip # 2
Clean your dog's water bowl frequently.
Think about it, would you want to drink water from a dirty glass? No. Clean your dog's water bowl on a regular basis and don't let it get dirty and unsanitary.

Tip # 3
Change your dog's water frequently.
Who doesn't love having fresh water? It is possible your dog may not like the taste of certain temperatures of water. Try changing their water and giving them fresh water throughout the week.

Tip # 4
Try adding ice cubes to your dog's water bowl.
Your dog may love colder water and giving them ice cubes made from quality water may be one of the best things you can do to get them to drink more of it.

Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix

PREP TIME:
5 Minutes
DIFFICULTY:
Easy
SERVINGS:
8 Servings

INGREDIENTS

2 cups Confectioners Sugar
1 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
2 cups Powdered Milk Or Instant Nonfat Dry Milk

INSTRUCTIONS

In a large bowl, sift the confectioner’s sugar, then the unsweetened cocoa, to get rid of any lumps. Stir in the powdered milk, and whisk well until everything is combined. Add mini marshmallows to the container, if desired. This can be kept in the pantry for 6 months.

When you want to make hot cocoa, combine equal parts hot cocoa mix and hot water. I like to put the hot cocoa mix in the cup and add the hot liquid on top, and stir, in order to not get any lumps. Enjoy!

Note: As a guideline, ½ cup of cocoa mix and ½ cup hot water is the right amount for me to enjoy in one serving.

Spiced Pear Tea

Makes: 8 servings
Start to Finish 25 mins

INGREDIENTS

1 orange
3 cups pear nectar
3 cups water
4 inches stick cinnamon
1 teaspoon whole cloves
6 regular-size tea bags
1/4 cup honey
Small orange slices (optional)
Cinnamon sticks (optional)

DIRECTIONS

1. Use a vegetable peeler to remove 3 wide strips of peel from the orange; set peel aside. Squeeze juice from orange.

2. In a large saucepan combine pear nectar, water, and orange juice. For the spice bag, place cinnamon, cloves, and the orange peel strips in the center of a 6-inch square of double-thick 100-percent-cotton cheesecloth. Bring corners together and tie with a clean string. Add bag to pear nectar mixture.

3. Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Add tea bags; cover and let stand 5 minutes. Remove tea bags and spice bag and discard. Stir in honey. Serve in mugs. If desired, float orange slices on top of each serving and serve with cinnamon stick stirrers.

Have Quality Water With Your Christmas Meal

BEST CHRISTMAS PUNCH RECIPE: SANTA'S LITTLE HELPER!

1 bottle of champagne (OR use a lemon-lime soda like Sierra Mist to make it non-alcoholic)
1 bottle of Cranberry Juice Blend
1 cup of sugar (try to use superfine sugar if you can find it)
1 c. frozen lemonade concentrate (thawed)
1 c. frozen orange juice concentrate (thawed)
ice
water (for amount, see below)
garnishes: lemon slices, cranberries, fresh rosemary sprigs

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine the champagne and the cranberry juice blend. Add the sugar, and stir vigorously until combined. Add the thawed concentrates, stir. If you want a strong punch you can leave as is and just add some ice. You may wish to dilute with up to three cups of water (add water to taste) depending on your personal preference. Remember adding ice will also dilute the punch a bit so don't go overboard on both ice and water. :) Add your garnishes-- a bag of fresh cranberries, lemon slices (wash the lemons well if including the peels), perhaps a sprig of fresh rosemary or two for a fresh kick.

** Note: You can also make this ahead of time-- simply add all ingredients EXCEPT the garnishes and bubbly (either champagne or soda). Refrigerate for a few hours and add the remaining ingredients when guests arrive. **
